How To Ask For A Raise Even Through A Recession

The first thought if asking for a raise during times of financial crisis is unheard of. Certainly the first perception is times our tough so there is no way anyone will be given a raise at this point. Of course if your company is bankrupt then that is a different story, but if work still goes on and there are employees who excel and are raking in the money, then certainly asking for a raise becomes justified. With this guide, you will know how to ask for a raise even if times are tough, but be sure you are deserving of one.

Even if the economy is bad, a company still has to reward their top performers who are bringing in clients and saving the company money. Good employees are seen as an investment to the company which is why if it is called for, they are definitely compensated for their accomplishments. A company does everything to keep their top employees happy because what's even worse then a recession is losing your best employees.

Like all guides to asking for a raise, before even considering it, you need to be certain you are in the right position to ask for one. Are you considered one of the top performers? If you are then only then do you have the right to be requesting for higher pay. Do some research as well to know the proper salary for your job and position to know what is the right increase to ask for. Best to check with recruiters as they know best and will have an idea what other firms are paying.

Once you are able to evaluate your value to the company that you work for, perhaps this would be the right time to set a meeting with your higher ups. Carefully discuss your salary concerns with your boss and respectfully state your claim as to why you are deserving of this request. Perhaps this would be a good time to remind the company of the various accomplishments that you have achieved over the years. This is also a good chance for you to present your goals and personal expectations so that your boss can see your aspirations for the company.

Show your boss the research you have done with the salary of those in the same field as you. This would be good to show if you are getting paid below average so that you can request for more. Mention that with all your contributions, you believe you clearly deserve what you are asking for and hope to paid at least equal to those in your field. Be open to any negotiations because it is expected that you won't be getting exactly what you ask for.

Even if times are tough, you can still get that raise you deserve. Just know how to ask for a raise and you won't have any difficulties getting one.
