Shall I inform you of an easy technique to overcome laziness and procrastination? All of us procrastinate from time and time and put off important work. Most of the times, this procrastination is due to the fact that we feel the work is too difficult, boring or time consuming. So we try to avoid it as much as we possibly can.
While avoiding an important task is not a wise thing, but most of us are guilty of such a thing. So whenever you feel like avoiding some work because it seems too difficult, then follow this simple advice - break down the work into smaller parts.
This strategy is called as chunking. For instance, if my goal is to write a book on some topic then I won't know where to begin with. I will feel overwhelmed and confused. Hence I will start procrastinating and delaying the work that has to be done.
A good idea would be to sit down and list all the things that would be required in order to write a book from start to finish. I would list down things like:
1. Doing research on the topic of my book 2. Finalizing a list of topics I want to cover in the book 3. Based on the topics, I would make a list of chapters 4. Now I would research the topic of each chapter in depth and note down points I would cover in each chapter and so on...
Once I break down this complex task of writing a book into simple manageable chunks, I would feel less overwhelmed and confused about the whole business. I will sit down today and just focus on the first step - doing basic preliminary research about my book topic. The next day I will focus on step 2 - shortlisting the topics and chapters to be covered.
So you see, how easy it becomes if you break down a complex work into smaller, manageable tasks. You can easily get over laziness and procrastination habit.
