The importance of employee uniforms for a business cannot be overlooked. The uniform quickly directs the customer in need of help where to go. It adds a team mentality and comfortable workwear improves employee morale. The uniform is also one of the most identifiable parts of a company or business.
If considering the kind of employee uniform to buy, think about the image you wish to create for you business. You may want to appear easy going and relaxing to potential customers or you may want to provide a professional air. Best Buy is a good example of a company that wants to provide a welcoming store for their customers by providing employees with basic, humble, blue golf shirts displaying the yellow company logo. This is likely not the image a ritzy hotel would want to convey, however. Customers there expect competent, polished employees, so they need to look the part. Something like a blazer or sport coat with an embroidered company logo would be much more effective in this case.
Cleaning and caring for uniforms is not a cheap proposition. A company needs to consider the cost to their employees while they are finding the proper style. Because the responsibility of uniform upkeep often falls to the employee, it would behoove the business to buy uniforms that are sturdy and made of easily cleaned material. Natural fibers of course feel good on the skin, but dirt builds up on them and it is difficult to get off. Synthetics may offer more ease in care, but don't go overboard because they can look cheap to the customer and sour their perception of your business.
Uniforms are actually essential pieces of brand extension and marketing. After all, particularly at a retail store, the idea is to be the first store that pops in customers' minds if thinking about a particular product. Regardless of the level of professionalism shown by the workwear, the company logo should appear somewhere near eye level. It may seem redundant, because the customer is well aware of the store they are shopping in, but that uniform will appear in their mind's eye long after they leave the establishment. This is what they will see from now on if envisioning that particular product they bought.
Comfort, care, and brand extension are all things to consider if buying employee uniforms. Once you decide how you want your business to appear, it is time to buy the proper uniform. Effective employee uniforms are essential components of a business.
