A funeral can be extremely expensive. If you figure in the cost of materials, labor, and land costs it can add up quickly. If you are faced with a situation where a funeral budget is a consideration and potentially a problem, then you may want to consider the low cost alternative of cremation. There are several funeral costs associated with a standard funeral that do not enter into a cremation funeral, and if you need to be cost conscious about your final arrangements then this is something for you to consider.

The first, and most obvious, expense that you eliminate with cremation is the expense of a cemetery plot. Some people choose to have the urn with their ashes placed in a mausoleum in a cemetery, but most people that are cremated are placed in a spot of honor in a relatives home. There is no ongoing lease and maintenance costs that are associated with cemetery plots, and it is much easier for the family to pay their respects if the urn with ashes is placed into a family members home.

Another expense that is greatly reduced if you decide on cremation is the cost of a casket. If you decide to be cremated, you can still opt to have visiting hours and a memorial service where your remains are present in a casket. The only difference is that if the service is over your remains are cremated instead of placed into a cemetery plot. The large metal caskets that are used to protect the remains from the elements found in the ground are not necessary for a cremation, so you wind up paying much less for a casket in the case of a cremation.

There are many practical costs that you save on if you decide on cremation too. The cost of transporting the casket to the cemetery is no longer part of the funeral arrangements. The cost of having a headstone made is no longer a necessary expense. All of these costs can add up to a great deal of money, and it can be a great deal of money you save if you decide on cremation.

Unfortunately you every so often need to consider a budget if you are making your final arrangements. If you know that there will not be a great deal of money available for a full funeral, then consider cremation. With the process of cremation you can eliminate or reduce many of the costs associated with a funeral, and make your final arrangements much easier on those you leave behind.
