The subject of nude photography had been a famous topic for debate among advocate organizations. They condemn the idea as a form of soft pornography. Organizations particularly womens advocate organizations trashes the idea of posing in front of the camera for arts sake and tackles this issue as a form of pornography. There is an exhibit on Through this Lens Gallery entitled Natural Forms which is a collaboration by two prolific photographers, Caroline Vaughan and Wojtek Wojdinski. Their exhibition focused on the most controversial subject which is Nudity.
Vaughans works include images of nude women amidst a landscape backdrop. Some images entirely show the beauty of a landscape including waterfalls, mountain ranges and farms. There were two photographs that garnered exclamations from critics and spectators during the exhibit. It was the photo of a nude woman at the onset of chemotherapy and after surgery. The photograph does not intend to shock its viewers but merely to show the human body in the sickness of cancer.
Wojdinskis works are also appealing and equally fantastic. He makes use of nude images of men and women portraying them with a great play of light and shadow. There was an image of a black man staring out of a window in a wistful manner that garnered praises and acclaims for critics. The image featured the well-chiseled body and muscular tone amidst the dimly lit room. Wojdinski made use of the human form in different angles in black and white.
The exhibit was not pornographic at all. The two artists were able to convey the theme to their viewers without sensationalizing the show. They were able to garner respectful nods and reviews to their critics. Advocate organizations for anti-pornography kept mum about the show. It is just a proof that their collaboration was a huge success.
Natural Forms is shown at Through this Lens Gallery in Durham, North Carolina. Anyone is invited to come and attend this special event. Marvel and be amazed at the creativity and talent of these two prolific painters.
