Necklaces for men are a kind of accessory. It has a strip line and they are worn right around the neck. These necklaces can be made of rocks, cloth, or even metal. Often they have a pendant or a lock attached to them. Although many people think of them as an ornament for women, many men wear necklaces today. There are a variety of great designs out there that are specifically made for men to wear.

Of course this really isn't new. All through history there have been men's necklaces. For thousands of years men have been wearing them. The Hebrews many years ago had necklaces that were a status symbol. Greeks and Romans had gold necklaces with special gems. Even King Jaipal the Hindu king had a necklace that included rubies and pearls.

And like history, necklaces for men today come in different materials and styles. And also, there are a lot of men's necklaces to choose from. Picking out a necklace for a guy could spell disaster for most people. In any case, if you know the basics, choosing the right necklace shouldn't be that daunting at all.

The first thing to consider is the styles that are available. You'll find that one style is the beaded necklace. This is a necklace that has many different beads on it. It can be put together with thread or wire or it can be woven together. These make great summer necklaces particularly if you enjoy the beach. These necklaces are great for surfers, nature lovers, and swimmers.

There are chain necklaces to consider too. These necklaces are either strands made of stones or they have links put together of metal. Often the materials are put together and they have pendants worn with them too. The key pendant is quite popular and famous for this necklace style. Men who like being trendy will enjoy wearing this kind of a necklace.

Another kind of pendant would be the drop necklace. Such a kind of necklace has pendants that hang down from their chains. If you fancy such a necklace style, a vintage necklace with beautiful agate stones and heart droppings is the popular choice for party-goers. While for the modern casual wearer, the classic/bohemian necklace with hematite, agate and black onyx embedded on imitation leather is a popular choice.

The neck cord is another kind of necklace for men. It is made of a rope of various strands or of a thin rope. They are woven, braided, or all twisted together. This is a simple kind of a necklace with an earthy appeal and looks good on men and women alike.

Last of all we have the choker. This is a necklace that is very tight fitting and it goes high on your neck. Often you'll notice that famous rock stars wear these necklaces. Often the materials used for them include metal, leather, velvet, and beads. For men who have an edgy style, they do make a wonderful choice.

Various materials out there that you can choose from if it comes to men's necklaces include white gold, Velcro, leather, stainless steel, rose gold, platinum, sterling silver, yellow gold, nylon, and canvas.

You'll find that canvas is a fabric that is durable and woven closely together. Velcro is often used to keep necklaces fastened. Leather is strong, supple and definitely quite durable. Platinum is both exquisite and very precious. There is white gold that is a gold alloy that is silver in color. Then you have yellow gold that often is fused together with other types of metals and is quite popular. Stainless steel is a trendy metal today and it is durable and resists rust too.

Nylon is made of strong plastic. Rose gold is an alloy of gold that contains a much higher percent of copper. Then sterling silver is made of white and highly reflective precious metal which contains 92.5 percent silver while the rest is made of other metals to make it harder.
