The government deficit is out of control, and President Obama's next concept to regain solid financial footing is to put a two-year government pay lock-up into impact. Such a move will reportedly conserve America $28 billion in 5 years and $60 billion in 10. This would impact all civilian federal employees, but active military would be excluded.nn
Excessively for the government pay freeze?
nnCongress nevertheless has to approve the federal pay freeze plan although deputy director of the Obama administration's Office of Management and Spending budget, Jeffrey Zients, said it is a belt-tightening. Zients explained, "it is the first of several difficult steps ahead" if discussing all the moves the government may have for making if financial ground is going to be regained by the government.nnJust spending reductions and federal job cuts
nnIt seems like everyone is concerned about "fiscal responsibility" right now. The government is intending to find a way to get the deficit to go down. Some proposals have been unpopular, such as former Sen. Alan Simpson (R-Wy.) and previous White House Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles' government job reductions proposal that would have eliminated 200,000 government careers over the next decade and slashed 250,000 non-military private contractor positions. President Obama has avoided such dramatic tactics and focused much more on the just spending cuts that could be obtained via a moratorium on earmarks.nnThe reason to not do a government pay freeze
nnNumerous Washington, D.C., insiders believe that Obama's federal pay freeze is much more a symbolic gesture than anything of good fiscal meaning. There would no longer be any talented workers as govt workers. That is what the pay lock-up would do. The country may really need this symbolic gesture though. That is what some suggest. It makes it seem like politics have extended an olive branch.nnGovernment workers making much more cash than ever
nnA recent USA Today study found that there has been a swell in the number of federal employees who make more than $150,000 per year. There was a tenfold growth within the just the past five years. Since Obama took office, it has doubled. This change has partly to do with doctors. At veteran's hospitals, they're considered a federal employee. The workload has gone up a ton since the United States has been in 2 wars.nnCitations
