Some may consider this statement as a bold one regarding the sport of paintball but I should start with this first statement. Paintball has been categorized as an "extreme" sport but it is one of the safest sports currently played today. I agree that the game is extreme because it is intense but safe because people are careful.
The reason which makes paintball one of the safest sports to play is that players take it seriously. The importance of playing a good game of paintball comes with responsibility and accountability. You must remember that paintball has the potential of being dangerous so caution is the word of the day for you.
The fact that the world of paintball has a huge injury myth has been kept by PSP (Paintball Sports Promotions). This myth only exists in the minds of general public and not in the statistical data. The industry has revealed that the not so common eye injury which has been highly publicized almost always occurs if the proper protective gear in not worn and on fields that are unsupervised and often illegal.
Statistical data enumerates that only .2 injuries occur per 1,000 exposures, giving paintball the lowest injury rate of any extreme sport. An average player will suffer an injury about once every 500 years has been highlighted by Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association.
Amongst all the gear involved the sport of paintball, goggles are the number one priority. Playing the game can be termed as extremely safe if a regulated field is chosen. Some features of regulated fields are that wearing of goggles is obligatory at all times while on the field and use of barrel plugs or barrel socks are also employed by field owners to block accidental discharge of paintballs from guns (markers) in staging areas.
Paintball is safer than most sports employing proper education and use of the gear in the sport. If comparison is made, other sports includes soccer, tennis and even bowling. I must mention here that this game is played mostly by girls and guys ages between 12-24. My age is 35 and I can't mention how much fun I have if I have the chance to get out there. Age doesn't matter so much if the player is active enough. I have seen guys as old as 45 enjoying the game thoroughly.
